CENTER of a TENSION is an alternative rock band formed in Richmond, KY in 2019 by frontman Chase Burdette. After playing and writing for several bands, he felt like he had more to say. “I needed a space to talk about things that I couldn’t say anywhere else but in music. This band was born to create that space.”
Since their first single Ride the Storm, they’ve been compared to alternative heavyweights such as The Band CAMINO, Switchfoot, and even Rage Against The Machine. (Ride the Storm was even given a siren-laden party remix by Colony House drummer Will Franklin Chapman). Their heart-on-sleeve approach results in songs about a wide array of stories and emotions. ‘COAT’ is passionate about writing songs that sing into the struggle, into the storm. (Maybe it was destiny for a band with the word ‘tension’ in its name to form right before a year like 2020 happened.)
The band’s newest song ‘The Hardest Time’ is about a kid who had to grow up too fast, a believer with questions that often go ignored, and a dreamer that’s still trying to make it to daybreak. It’s a melodically upbeat but lyrically emotional song born from the tension between beauty and pain; from a place of saying “I’m counting my blessings, but why does it still hurt?” It’s an honest conversation, raising difficult questions about the things we’ve grown so used to hiding beneath the surface.
The song is fantastic with a very involved build up and a lot of instrumentation. It is a definite playlist add!
