SZA- SOS Deluxe: Lana

So you’ve been living under a rock if you weren’t aware that SZA FINALLY dropped the deluxe to her SOS album Lana late January of this year. With that said, let’s dive a bit into what we’re feeling to the deluxe as well as the latest three additional songs included. ‘30 for 30’ with Kendrick Lamar had to be a definite gem that contained the all the elements of a catchy, hype feel good tune. Anytime SZA pairs up with Lamar its most likely going to be a certified banger in our book. The other songs to stand out from the album include: ‘BMF,’ ‘What Do I Do’,’Scorsese Baby Daddy,’ and ‘Crybaby.’ It almost felt like we were receiving a new album in and of itself with this very eccentric, meditative emotion encompassing the majority of the songs. But as we know SZA’s albums can range and the Scorpio queen gives a multitude of emotions within the deluxe and has the listener fluctuating from one emotion to the opposite.

The four newest songs included in Lana consist of: ‘Joni,’ featuring Don Toliver, ‘Take You Down,’ ‘Open Arms (just SZA) and ‘PSA.’ Starting of with ‘Joni,’ we must acknowledge the power of Don Toliver and how well these two artists mesh. ‘Joni’ isn’t the first song these two have concocted and we are very pleased by this because the second these two collab it’s magic. ‘Take You Down’ was a beautiful ballad that we felt was one of those sneaky additions that just made you feel the soul pouring from the artist fluidly throughout. ‘Open Arms,’ in SZA’s rendition only was a clever and needed song as well. It was nice to have the option of keeping the smooth progression of the song with the sometimes harsh input of Scott in the original version. The magical and childlike sounds within ‘PSA’s instrumental was such a fun pair with a rather upfront, matter of fact lyrics SZA worded. We felt as though SZA is one of the best artists who demonstrates taking two opposite emotions within lyricism and music and blending them with such effortless ease. If you haven't already go peep SZA’s latest inclusions to her SOS Deluxe: Lana!
