The American Hotel System releases smooth project with “Interrobang”
The American Hotel System is a rock band from Grand Rapids, Michigan that aims to provoke the mind through heartfelt lyrics and intentional musicality. First formed in 2017 by college friends Jacob Betts (Lead Vox & Guitar), Hailey Petty (Drums), Jake LaMotte (Bass), and Samuel Overman (Guitar), they quickly decided to record and release A Search for Sunken Truth, Vol. 1 and found success on college radio with their track Talk, Inc. After adding C.T. McCallister to the line-up in early 2019, the band released the follow-up companion EP A Search for Sunken Truth, Vol. 2 in June 2019 which further cemented the band’s dynamic range of musical influence and concepts. Their song 21st was featured in Relix Magazine in August 2019
. In December of that year, the band finally released their debut full length album The Sunken Truth. The group's diverse musical backgrounds and influences come together on the record to make for a dynamic musical experience and emotional journey, which lead to the band being named one of BuzzMusic LA’s Top 10 acts of 2019. In early 2020, with all of their tour dates canceled, the group found themselves isolated from one another.
‘This inspired the band to dig into a new layer of creativity and vulnerability, working via video chats and phone calls to remotely write and record a stripped back EP called ‘Postcards’. In the fall of 2020, the band joined forced with Robby Fischer & Tito Mendoza of Dogtown Studios in Grand Rapids to record a live EP consisting of four of their favorite tracks -- 'Live at Dogtown Studio' released on December 11, 2020 and launched the band into a new chapter with features in BuzzMusic LA and landed them in the top 10 of Music Prize 2021 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
